[March 10, 2015]  March 9 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Monday's National Hockey League games.

Sharks 2, Penguins 1 (shootout)

Tommy Wingels scored on the backhand in the eighth round of a shootout to give the San Jose Sharks a 2-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday.

Melker Karlsson was the only other Shark to beat Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury in the shootout.

Sharks goalie Antti Niemi stopped seven of eight Pittsburgh shooters, including Steve Downie on the visitors' final attempt.

Matt Nieto netted for San Jose (33-26-8) in the first period while Sidney Crosby converted his 23rd goal of the season in the third to tie it for Pittsburgh (38-18-10).

Predators 2, Coyotes 1 (overtime)

Predators winger James Neal banged in a rebound from defenseman Seth Jones's shot with 2:15 left in overtime, and goalie Pekka Rinne made 27 saves, as Nashville snapped a season-high six-game losing streak.

The win stretched Nashville's lead over St. Louis in the Central Division to four points, but the Blues have two games in hand. The Predators (42-19-7) also pulled into a tie with Anaheim for the Western Conference and NHL lead with 91 points.

Canucks 2, Ducks 1

Zack Kassian broke a 1-1 tie late in the third period to give the Vancouver Canucks a 2-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks.

Bo Horvat scored midway through the first period for Vancouver, who improved their record to 38-24-4 for 80 points.

The Ducks outshot Vancouver 30-16. Canucks goaltender Eddie Lack made some great saves to keep his team in the game.

Anaheim lead the NHL with a 42-19-7 record for 91 points.

The Ducks are 5-1-0 in their last six road games.

Islanders 4, Maple Leafs 3 (OT)

Islanders captain John Tavares scored the overtime winner as New York battled back to edge the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3.

Tavares added an assist in the win and now has a league-leading 72 points.

David Booth and Peter Holland gave the Leafs (26-35-6) a 2-0 lead and Toronto went up 3-1 at 6:06 in the third.

New York (43-21-4) battled back with scores from Frans Nielsen and Casey Cizikas in a 30-second span.

Red Wings 5, Oilers 2

Teemu Pulkkinen, Riley Sheahan and Pavel Datsyuk each had a goal and an assist each to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a 5-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers.

Niklas Kronwall and Justin Abdelkader also scored for Detroit. Goaltender Jimmy Howard stopped 36 shots.

Rob Klinkhammer and ail Yakupov scored for Edmonton.

Detroit (37-17-11) completed a season sweep of Edmonton (18-38-11) and moved within three points of idle Tampa Bay for second place in the Atlantic Division. (Editing by Peter Rutherford)
