“Engaging the Encore Generation”

is the theme of a Pastors’ Conference

to be held March 19 in Decatur, Illinois.

This conference is open to all church leaders interested in effective ministry with older adults, the fastest-growing segment of the nation’s population.
The conference will address meeting the needs and expectations of older adults as well as providing opportunities for them to serve with their talents and gifts. Ministry to older adults in the late stages of their lives also will be covered.
Dr. Earl Ferguson is the keynote speaker. Ferguson leads a rapidly-growing congregation in Plainfield, Illinois whose membership is primarily over 55 years of age. The congregation, a campus of 6000-member Community Christian Church of Naperville, features a worship band aged 65 to 85. Dr. Ferguson’s Messages include “Engaging Teaching, Worship, and Fellowship” and “Unique Opportunities for Ministry in Active Adult Communities.”
The program includes the following workshops and presenters:
• “Engaging Christian Ethics in a Pro-Death Culture,” Dr Robert Kurka;
• “Engaging Pastoral Care through the Transitions of Senior Life,” Dr Paul Boatman;
• “Engaging Pastoral Care at the Last Stage of Life,” Ernie Harvey and Dennis Warner;
• “The Best Engagements of Seniors in our Church,” Tim barber and Mike Harney;
• “Championing Life, Caring for the Dying—Partnership between Safe Haven Hospice and the Church”—a “Lunch and Learn” panel discussion.

All conference activities will take place at First Christian Church, 3350 North MacArthur Rd, Decatur, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, March 19. Details regarding registration and schedule can be found at www.safe-havenhospice.org or by calling the toll-free number 855-879-4096. A savings is available by registering before March 1.
Safe Haven Hospice, based in Lincoln, is sponsoring the conference with the support of Christian Homes, Inc., and co-sponsorship of Eastview Christian Church of Normal, First Christian Church of Champaign, First Christian Church of Clinton, Lincoln Christian Church of Lincoln, and Westside Christian Church of Springfield.
