[March 13, 2015]  March 12 (The Sports Xchange) - The New York Islanders and defenseman Johnny Boychuk agreed to a seven-year deal worth a reported $42 million on Thursday.

The deal -- announced by the team, with financial terms revealed by Newsday -- is the second big extension the Islanders have given to a key defender in the last month. They also resigned Nick Leddy to a seven-year, $38.5 million deal.

The Tampa Bay Lightning suffered a setback (or three) in their attempt to win the Atlantic Division, with the announcement Thursday that three players will be out for extended periods with injuries.

Defenseman Braydon Coburn will miss 4-6 weeks with a lower-body injury, forward Ondrej Palat (lower body) is out 2-3 weeks, and Cedric Paquette (upper body) will be sidelined 10-14 days. All three were injured Tuesday in Tampa Bay's 1-0 win over the Montreal Canadiens.

Defenseman Ryan Murray was activated on injured reserve by the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Murray has been sidelined since suffering a high ankle sprain in a game against the St. Louis Blues on February 6.

The Anaheim Ducks reassigned defenseman Josh Manson to Norfolk of the American Hockey League on Thursday.

Manson, 23, appeared in 10 games for Anaheim during this stint, collecting two points with six penalty minutes. Manson, who made his NHL debut on Oct. 31, has played in 28 NHL games this season, tallying three points.

The Toronto Maple Leafs recalled defenseman JT Brennan from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.

Brennan, 25, was acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks on Feb. 25 and has one assist in five games for the Marlies.

The Philadelphia Flyers signed forward Cole Bardreau to a three-year, entry-level contract on Thursday.

The deal will begin next season, according to general manager Ron Hextall.

The Boston Bruins signed University of Massachusetts forward Frank Vatrano to an entry-level contract.

Vatrano, 20, is eligible to join the organization immediately with UMass' season ending last week in a loss to Notre Dame. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
