IDES Director Jeff Mays confirmed by Illinois Senate

[March 20, 2015]  SPRINGFIELD– The Illinois Senate unanimously (51-0) confirmed Jeff Mays as Director of the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) on March 19. Mays, a Quincy-native and former legislator was appointed by Gov. Rauner on January 12, 2015.

“The mission of this Department is to promote the economic growth and stability in Illinois, one that is fully aligned with my efforts for the past 35 years,” said Director Mays. “I am honored that Governor Bruce Rauner asked me to serve the people of Illinois as leader of this Department.”

Mays led the Illinois Business Roundtable (IBRT) for the past 16 years. The major policy focus of the IBRT has been education improvement and workforce development.

Mays holds a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University in History. He lives in Quincy and prior to his appointment as Director of IDES, served as the Vice President on the Quincy Public School Board.
