[March 23, 2015]  March 22 (The Sports Xchange) - The NHL handed Nashville Predators forward Craig Smith a $5,000 fine Sunday for high-sticking Buffalo Sabres forward Jerry D'Amigo.

The NHL's Department of Player Safety announced the fine, the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The incident occurred in the first period Saturday night in Nashville. Smith swung his stick at D'Amigo as he chased after him, drawing blood. Smith was assessed a double-minor penalty for high-sticking on the play.

The Edmonton Oilers placed left winger Ryan Hamilton on waivers for the purpose of assignment.

Hamilton, 29, appeared in 16 games for the Oilers this season, registering two points.

The Los Angeles Kings recalled forward Mike Richards from the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League.

Richards has played in 46 games with the Kings this season, registering 15 points (five goals, 10 assists) and 39 penalty minutes.

The Boston Bruins recalled defenseman Zach Trotman on an emergency basis from the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League.
