[March 23, 2015]  LINCOLN - Logan County manufacturers are invited to attend a Manufacturer’s Council meeting to learn about programs that can help provide them access to qualified job candidates for high demand occupations.

As manufacturers increase production, expand operations, and replace an aging workforce, they are faced with the challenge of finding workers with the right skills. There is often a mismatch between the skills job seekers have and the skills required for today’s manufacturing. The “Accelerated Training for Illinois Manufacturing” (ATIM) Program is designed to address this skills gap. Manufacturers also face issues with the need to continually upgrade the skills of their current employees by providing them with on-the-job training.

These challenges – and solutions that can be provided to meet them - are the focus of the Manufacturer’s Council that will be held on Thursday, March 26 from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at Eaton Corporation, 1725 1200th Ave, Lincoln.

The ATIM Program provides short-term training for jobs currently available with area manufacturers, including: Certified Production Technician (CPT), Welding Technicians, CNC Operators and Technicians, and Industrial Maintenance. The ATIM program provides manufacturers with access to qualified job candidates for high demand occupations.

The training provided by the ATIM Program also prepares individuals to earn industry credentials in several areas, including: Safety certificate—Manufacturing, Skill Standards Council (MSSC) and American Welding Society (AWS) or National Institute for Metalworking Skills, Inc. (NIMS). ATIM training leads to work ready individuals using newly acquired skills at paid internships.
