LCHS Speech Team headed to State Semi-finals

[March 26, 2015]  LINCOLN - The LCHS Speech Team is headed to state competition again -this time with the group interpretation Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher.

Directors Jennifer Keith and Wyatt Phillis lead the 16-member team through the story, weaving in popular music to transition between the 13 cassette tapes Hannah Baker leaves behind after her untimely suicide, placing 2nd after tying with Charleston for the Sectional Championship Saturday.

Cast members include: senior Bailey Mitchell as Hannah Baker; junior Zac McCray as Clay Jensen; junior Braden Tanner as Bryce and junior McKenzie Landers as Courtney. These four young actors also received special mention as they were selected to the All-Sectional Group Interp team.

Ensemble cast members are: juniors Colton Clark, Rachel Meador, Bekah Harpin, Lena Stapleton; sophomores Isabelle Robbins, Shelbi Fisher, Claire Conrady, Abby Funk, Belle Smith; freshmen Lydia Spellman, Shannon Rahn, and Erin Gowin. Sophomore Caleb White is the student director.

The team will compete Friday evening at 8 p.m. at the University of Illinois at Springfield. If they are in the top six teams from the 18 which are traveling to state, they will compete again Saturday morning as State Finalists.
