[March 27, 2015]  ARMINGTON –The popular southern Indiana duo, The Fabulous Antiquities, will perform a return engagement this weekend at The Outpost, an Armington bar and restaurant known for hosting live music acts.

The Antiquities – Gary Ready and David LeDune – will perform during an all-acoustic show that starts at 7 p.m. The show will open with Danny Tackett and Jimmy Birkey, regulars twice a month during The Outpost’s Chicken and Pickin’ nights. Armington native Lisa Groth will be featured during the opening set.

Ready and LeDune, from the Vincennes, Ind., area, rely heavily on classic country and classics from old pop and rock genres to fill their set lists. They cover material from John Denver, Jimmy Buffet, Gordon Lightfoot, and Don McLean and add a few Beatles tunes to fill out their show.

Ready, a master of intricate guitar chords and finger-style accompaniment, picked up the guitar when he was 14 years old, learning his first licks on an Airline instrument from Montgomery Ward. LeDune, who plays bass and fiddle in the duet, got his first hands-on taste of music learning three chords from his dad on a four-string plectrum banjo and mandolin. When LeDune was in his 20s, he became infatuated with five-string banjo and followed that trail all the way to the Indiana State Banjo Champion title in 1979.

“We do a very personal concert and like people sitting close to us,” LeDune says. “We really enjoy people getting close. We do a lot of songs folks might have heard throughout the years, but have never heard them performed in a live sitting. And, of course, we take requests.”

Ready and LeDune are both songwriters and members of ASCAP, a song licensing organization that oversees royalties and copyright protections for its members. They have become a popular regional act, having played in venues from Nashville to Indianapolis. They made their Outpost debut – as well as their first trek to central Illinois – last November. Rick Tackett, who owns and manages the bar, was thrilled with their performance and the audience’s reaction to the Hoosiers’ show.

“I’d certainly put them in the top five acts we’ve had in here,” he said. “This is a show that a lot of people, young and old, will certainly enjoy.”

The Outpost is located on Armington’s main street, in the former American Legion building. It does not have a cover charge for any of its live music shows.
