Obituary

Norma L. Powell, 96 of Lincoln, passed away May 2, 2015 at St. Clara's Manor.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at Laenna Cemetery, Chestnut. Captain Donna Rose of the Salvation Army will officiate.

Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home has been entrusted with her care.

Norma was born August 14, 1918 in Chestnut, the daughter of John Laughery and Clara ( Van Devander) Laughery. She married James Powell on December 16, 1980. He preceded her in death on May 21, 1998.

Norma was a member of the Lincoln First Baptist Church where she belonged to the Women's Missionary Circle. She operated the concession stand at Bennis Auto View for fifteen years. She was employed at the Heritage Inn and Colonial Restaurant in Lincoln. Norma retired from McDonald's as a customer representative in 1979.

 

Funeral Directors

Surviving are her children: Norman Fletcher of Blairsville, GA., Shirley Balfanz of Lincoln, and Linda Goldsbary also of Lincoln, 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jimmy Powell, her siblings Doris Simons, Bessie Shumard, Roxy Fort, Jeannette Purlee, and Cecil Laughery, her granddaughter Lisa LuAnn Mullins, and her great grandson Michael Mullins Jr.

Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Logan County Food Pantry.
