[May 27, 2015]  LINCOLN - The Logan County Sheriff’s Office would like to make the citizens of Logan County aware of a potential asphalt paving scam.

On May 22, 2015, a resident of Logan County was approached by a male subject driving a maroon pickup truck with a front plate that read “Asphalt” and rear plates registered out of Missouri.

The individual initially approached the residence and informed the homeowner he had excess asphalt material from a previous job site, and he could get a deal for the homeowner. The subject then placed a phone call to his “supervisor,” after which the subject then quoted an initial price for the driveway servicing.

A crew of four to six individuals then performed some type of service on the homeowner’s drive. The subject then charged a different, higher price once the service was completed.

Please be aware that door-to-door sales for this particular service are not the industry standard. Any asphalt company stating they have excess material they can give away to the homeowner for reduced pricing should be scrutinized by the homeowner.

If you have any contact with this type of company, please notify the Sheriff’s Office as soon as possible at 217-732-4159. Please refer any questions to Detective Sergeant Mark Landers.
