[May 29, 2015]  May 28 (The Sports Xchange) - The San Jose Sharks announced Peter DeBoer as their new coach on Thursday.

The Sharks had been searching for Todd McLellan's replacement since April when it was decided that he would not return for an eighth season in 2015-16. McLellan, who had success in San Jose but could never lead the team to a title, has since been hired as Edmonton Oilers coach.

Dan Bylsma was named coach of the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday.

Bylsma spent two days with Sabres officials, leaving only the compensation packages to be worked out Thursday. The Penguins are assured a third-round draft choice in return, and Bylsma is likely to command a healthy salary to replace Ted Nolan in Buffalo.

Senators general manager Bryan Murray, who is battling Stage 4 colon cancer, said he plans to shift to an advisory role with Ottawa after next season.

Murray, 72, was diagnosed with incurable cancer last November but continues treatment. He told CBC News this is his 21st chemotherapy treatment.

The Arizona Coyotes signed forward Matthias Plachta to a one-year, entry-level contract.

Plachta, 24, logged 14 goals, 35 points and 73 penalty minutes in 47 games for Alder Mannheim in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga this past season. The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder added five goals, nine points and six penalty minutes in 15 postseason games.

The Philadelphia Flyers signed left winger Radel Fazleev to an entry-level contract, the team announced.

The 19-year-old Fazleev was selected in the sixth round of the 2014 NHL draft by the Flyers.

The Columbus Blue Jackets signed defenseman Cody Goloubef to a two-year contract extension through the 2016-17 season.

The 25-year-old Goloubef was set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
