NHL roundup: Red Wings beat Babcock's Leafs again

TORONTO -- Jakub Kindl scored at 2:17 of overtime and the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1 on Friday.

It was the second goal of the season for the defenseman and gave the Red Wings their third win in a row.

Henrik Zetterberg scored his 300th career goal in the first period for Detroit and Dion Phaneuf tied the game for the Maple Leafs with 1:01 to play in the third period.

The Red Wings, who were coached for 10 years by Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock, won the first meeting of the season between the teams 4-0 on Oct. 9 at Detroit.

James Reimer made 22 saves for Toronto and Petr Mrazek stopped 32 shots for Detroit.

Stars 4, Hurricanes 1

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Patrick Sharp scored a tiebreaking goal with 8:45 remaining and Dallas continued its road success with a victory over Carolina at PNC Arena.

Sharp was set up on a breakaway with a pass from center Tyler Seguin as Dallas took advantage of a Carolina breakdown.



Radek Faksa, Ales Hemsky and Jason Demers also scored for the Stars. Jordan Staal scored for the Hurricanes, who have won only one of five home games.

Kari Lehtonen, who played in consecutive games for the first time in three weeks, stopped 30 shots for the win while Eddie Lack made 25 saves.

Devils 4, Blackhawks 2

NEWARK, N.J. -- Travis Zajac scored his sixth goal and Cory Schneider made 27 saves as New Jersey defeated Chicago at Prudential Center.

Zajac, Lee Stempniak and Kyle Palmieri had a goal and an assist each and Mike Cammalleri also scored for the Devils.

Patrick Kane extended his points streak to nine games with his eighth goal of the season and Tanner Kero scored his first NHL goal for Chicago.

Rangers 2, Avalanche 1

DENVER -- Derek Stepan and Oscar Lindberg scored goals 21 seconds apart and the New York Rangers beat Colorado.

Henrik Lundqvist had 29 saves -- 14 in the third -- for the Rangers, who continued their strong play against Colorado.

Nathan MacKinnon had Colorado's only goal. The Avalanche lost their second straight and are 2-5-1 at home.

Penguins 2, Oilers 1

EDMONTON, Alberta -- Phil Kessel's third-period power-play goal proved to be the difference as Pittsburgh beat Edmonton at Rexall Place.

Oskar Klefbom ripped a slap shot that went through Pittsburgh goalie Jeff Zatkoff, making just his second start of the season, to open the scoring. Zatkoff was strong the rest of the way, making a total of 27 saves.

Daniel Sprong's wrist shot from the slot tied the game before Kessel's winner.

Ducks 4, Blue Jackets 2

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf had three assists each and Josh Manson scored his first career goal to lead Anaheim over Columbus.

Clayton Stoner, Cam Fowler and Patrick Maroon also scored for the Ducks while Scott Hartnell scored both of the Blue Jackets goals.
