Should the homeowner call that number, an individual identifying
themselves as an IRS employee will attempt to pressure the homeowner
into paying taxes or fines. The Illinois Attorney General’s Office
has posted multiple warnings regarding these types of scams on their
website.

In addition to this telephone solicitation scam, the Sheriff’s
Office has recently been made aware of individuals traveling door to
door in Logan County attempting to sell frozen meats. The
individuals were observed in a small pickup truck with an Iowa
Steaks refrigeration unit in the bed. There were two men and one
woman in the vehicle.
On at least one occasion, when the individuals were told the
homeowner did not want to purchase any of the products, one of the
males exited the truck and began berating and cursing at the
homeowner in an effort to intimidate the home owner into making an
unwanted purchase.
These individuals eventually left the residence after being
repeatedly told to do so. Anyone who has contact with these or any
other salespersons whom residents may find suspicious or overly
aggressive in the use of their sales tactics, are encouraged to
contact their local law enforcement or the Logan County Sheriff’s
Office.
