[November 09, 2015]  MOUNT PULASKI - Cissna Park ended the Lady Toppers volleyball season Saturday afternoon in the Effingham Super-Sectional.

Mount Pulaski won the first set against the Lady Timberwolves 25-18. However, Cissna Park dashed the Lady Toppers hope of making it to Redbird Arena by winning sets two and three by the scores of 26-24 and 25-21.

Maddy Davis led the Lady Toppers with 21 kills, 5 blocks and 10 digs, while fellow senior Lilly Pickett had 7 kills and 2 digs. Alexandra Beckers had 39 assists and 7 digs. Emilee Burge had 3 kills and 21 digs.

The three freshman on the squad who gained varsity experience this season on Coach Donna Dulle's squad also put up impressive stats. Skylar Hayes had 6 kills and 21 digs and Abigail Fitzpatrick had 2 kills and 30 digs. Morgan May also contributed 2 digs for the Lady Toppers.

Cissna Park finished in third place in the state tournament last year.

This one was a classic matchup that featured three nerve-wracking sets. Williamsville took the first set 30-28, Bloomington Central Catholic won the second set 25-19 and then the Lady Bullets dug their way back from a 10 point deficit in set three, at one point trailing 19-9, to within a point, 24-23, before a kill by Bloomington Central Catholic punched their ticket to state.

The final score in set three was 25-23 in favor of Bloomington Central Catholic, who incidentally is coached by J.R. Banister, son of Charles and Linda Banister of Lincoln. Banister was also once an assistant coach for Donna Dulle in Mount Pulaski years ago.

The volleyball state tournament for all four classes will be held this Friday and Saturday at Redbird Arena in Normal.
