[November 10, 2015]  LINCOLN - As light frost melted on Saturday morning, participants of the first Logan County Ruck Run were warming up in Kickapoo Creek Park.

The 5K run hosted and organized by Reps Gym offered three bangs for the buck -
- Personal fitness and fellowship
- Registration fees and monetary donations to the VFW Veteran Relief Fund
- Food carried in rucks (backpacks) donated for the hungry

And one more bonus, being outdoors on a beautiful sun-filled morning in a park full of leaves turning colors, and not too hot, not too cold temperatures. Runners were brought into the park from across the street hayrack ride style. Those who brought food donations had their filled and unfilled sacks weighed, and as each participant signed in each they received their signature Ruck Run emblem T-shirt.

With 43 participants, Jamie Beard of Reps Gym said, "It was a great day full of camaraderie, no "soldier" (runner) was left behind to go it alone! Everyone left feeling good!"

Beard reported that the event raised a whopping $2,657 for the VFW Post 1756 Veteran's Relief Fund.

In addition, over 800 pounds of food was donated by participants to be given to the Logan County Food Pantry.

The Ruck Run was an event that many have already marked on their calendars to do again next year, and which organizers are committed to continue on the Saturday before Veteran's Day.

Beard said, "We want to thank Drew Whitted from Be Strong Gym in Bloomington for shutting down his gym so he and a few members could come and participate.
