[November 11, 2015]  LINCOLN - The City of Lincoln Wastewater Treatment Plant has been nominated for an award for “Best Operated Wastewater Treatment Works” in the State of Illinois for Group 1 facilities.

With over 180 Group 1 wastewater facilities in the State of Illinois, the City of Lincoln wastewater plant was one of 6 sites to earn the nomination. Group 1 plants are sites that treat more than 1 million gallons of sewage per day.

The nomination was submitted by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and final awards will be presented at the Illinois Association of Water Pollution Control Operators annual conference in April 2016 in Springfield, IL.

The City’s treatment plant has been operated by American Water’s Contract Services Group, formerly known as Environmental Management Corporation (EMC), since 1990. This will be the third such nomination for the City’s treatment plant, with others coming in 1997 and 1999.

“We are exceedingly proud of the City’s wastewater treatment plant management and crew. This distinction is evidence of the type of first class operation that American Water Contract Services provides to our residents,” stated City Administrator Clay Johnson.
