 The red ribbon symbolizes a continuing commitment to reducing the
demand for illicit drugs in our communities. In 1985, Drug
Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent Enrique S. "Kiki"
Camarena was killed by drug traffickers. Shortly after Camarena's
death, citizens from his hometown of Calexico, California, began
wearing red ribbons to remember him and commemorate his sacrifice.
Congress established Red Ribbon Week in 1988.
Zion Lutheran School began the week by wearing their red Zion
t-shirts and making a bulletin board displayed in the cafeteria.
Throughout the week, the students participated in dress up themes
and activities.
On Thursday, Officer Scott Brown spoke to the entire student body
about the importance of making good choices as well as a reminder
about knowing important emergency contact information.
On Friday, the entire student body, Preschool – 8th grade, enjoyed
running in Red Relay Races with their chapel family groups.

It was a joy to see the older students helping out the younger ones. Zion
Lutheran School has a great sense of community among its students!
