[November 17, 2015]  MOUNT PULASKI - Dustin Murphy soars above the Stag defense Monday night leading the Bruins with 22 points. Mount Pulaski defeated Hartsburg-Emden 49-11 in the 8th grade contest between the two Logan County schools.

The Bruins scored the first ten unanswered points of the game, led by Murphy and Brian Batchelder.

Hartem was finally on the board with a free throw by Spencer Davis with 1.0 second on the clock in the first quarter.

Murphy started right where he left off in the second quarter and extended the lead to 12-1. Davis would answer for Hartem with a three but Brandon Kretzinger came right back with a basket and the 14-4 lead belonged to the home team. Wyatt Hopkins made two free throws late in the second quarter to pull Hartem to within single digits but the 18-9 score would be as close as the Stags would get against the quicker and taller Bruin team. Murphy tossed in 10 points in the first half as the Bruins headed to the locker room up 20-9.

The second half was all Mount Pulaski as the Stags only managed one basket by Connor Zinser late in the third quarter. The Bruins scoring was balanced in the third quarter with Murphy, Batchelder, Kretzinger, and Zac Hinds all tallying points as Mount Pulaski led 34-11 at this point.

The story was pretty much the same in the fourth quarter for the Bruins as they outscored the Stags 15-0. Dawson Combs scored the final bucket for Mount Pulaski to close out the game 49-11.

Murphy's 22 points led all scorers for the evening while Batchelder chipped in 13 points.

Mount Pulaski's 8th graders improves to 4-1.

Davis led the Stags with 7 points.

The Bruins had the size advantage all night as the 7th graders also defeated the Stags 54-15 in the earlier game of the evening.

For the 7th graders, Drew Martin led Mount Pulaski with 18 points. Lane Murphy and Grant Davis also scored in double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively.

The 7th grade Bruins are undefeated with a 5-0 record.

MacArthur Briggs led Hartem with 5 points.
