NHL roundup: Last-minute goal lifts Panthers

[November 17, 2015]  SUNRISE, Fla. -- Aaron Ekblad scored with just 20.2 seconds remaining in the third period, and goalie Roberto Luongo earned his 69th career shutout as the Florida Panthers defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 1-0 Monday night at the BB&T Center.

Ekblad scored in a mad scramble in front of the Tampa goal. Jonathan Huberdeau earned an assist.

It was just the second time in the past nine meetings at the BB&T Center that the Panthers beat Tampa Bay.

Luongo made 39 saves and earned career win No. 407, tying Glenn Hall for eighth place on the NHL victories list.

Red Wings 4, Senators 3 (OT)

OTTAWA -- Tomas Tatar scored at 2:04 of overtime to give Detroit a victory over Ottawa.

Tatar found himself in alone after an Ottawa turnover and beat Craig Anderson to spoil a Senators third-period comeback.
 


The victory stopped the Red Wings' losing streak at two games, and also marked the first time in six game they have scored more than two goals -- or since their last visit to Ottawa. The loss was the Senators' fourth in their last five games, and left them with a 3-4-3 home record.

Canadiens 4, Canucks 3 (OT)

MONTREAL -- David Desharnais scored at 3:25 of overtime to give Montreal a come-from-behind win over Vancouver.

Goaltender Jacob Markstrom stopped 32 shots for the Canucks, who squandered a 3-0 lead. Goalie Mike Condon made 23 saves for Montreal.

Adam Cracknell, Jared McCann and Daniel Sedin scored in regulation for Vancouver. Lars Eller, Max Pacioretty and Tomas Fleischmann replied for the Canadiens.

Blues 3, Jets 2

ST. LOUIS -- David Backes scored two goals and assisted on another to lead St. Louis past Winnipeg, extending the Jets' losing streak to six games.

Backes was moved onto the Blues' top forward line with Alexander Steen and Vladimir Tarasenko during the morning skate, and the move paid immediate dividends. Backes' second goal 4:24 into the second period came when he took a pass from Steen and flipped a backhander past goalie Michael Hutchinson.

The Blues snapped a two-game losing streak, which equaled their longest of the season.

Islanders 5, Coyotes 2

NEW YORK -- Brock Nelson, John Tavares and Steve Bernier scored in the first 12 minutes of the third period as New York beat Arizona.

Frans Nielsen scored in the first period for the Islanders, who have won two straight and three out of four. Kyle Okposo had an assist on each of New York's first three goals.

Jaroslav Halak recorded 31 saves as he snapped a three-game losing streak and won for the second time in his last six starts (2-3-1), a span in which he has given up only 12 goals.

Ducks 4, Hurricanes 1

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Anton Khudobin made 24 saves in his first game facing his former team as Anaheim beat Carolina.

Khudobin evened his record at 3-3 in his initial season with Anaheim.

Carl Hagelin, who had one assist entering the game, assisted on Anaheim's first two goals and then scored the final goal with 3:49 remaining. Shawn Horcoff and Sami Vatanen added goals for the Ducks.

Blues 3, Jets 2
