[November 21, 2015]  LINCOLN - National Diabetes Month is observed every November to draw attention to diabetes and its effects on millions of Americans. In 2010, an estimated 25.8 million people or 8.3 percent of the population had diabetes. In Logan County, the rate was higher than average with 9.9 percent of residents having been diagnosed with diabetes.

A free support group for people with diabetes will be held by Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital on Friday, November 20 in the Wombacher Room at 11am. The informal discussion will be centered on “Blood Sugar Problem Solving.” The meeting does not require registration. Jennifer DiPasquale, a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator, leads the group.

“The diabetes support group at ALMH is a great opportunity to get practical and timely information to learn how to manage your diabetes,” said DiPasquale. “Family members, friends, and caregivers are also welcome to attend.”

On Wednesday, November 25 an additional presentation “The Low-Down on Low-Calorie Sweeteners” will be presented at ALMH in Steinfort A. The free presentation will be led by ALMH Registered Dietitian Jennifer DiPasquale and is open to the general public. Please join us at 10 am, 11am or 12pm to hear about acesulfame potassium (also called acesulfame K), aspartame, stevia, saccharin, sucralose, neotame, advantame and more.
