Lincoln Community High School Speech Team takes home first team trophy of the year

[November 24, 2015]  LINCOLN - The Lincoln Community High School Speech Team brought home some hardware as the snow fell for the first time this season. The team placed 3rd overall out of the 11 teams present for the Charleston Invitational Tournament - "Speech Easy."




Individual finishers include: senior Jordan Wood, 1st in Junior Varsity Oratorical Declamation and 3rd in JV Radio Speaking. Additional senior speakers who placed were Joe Ahrends, 5th in Special Occasion Speaking and 7th in Impromptu; Zac McCray, 6th in Original Oratory; Braden Tanner, 5th in Poetry Reading and 2nd in Dramatic Interpretation; McKenzie Landers and Lena Stapleton, 2nd in Humorous Duet Acting.


Stapleton also placed 5th in Dramatic Duet Acting with partner sophomore Justin Woods. Woods also placed 5th in Humorous Duet Acting.

Juniors Claire Conrady and Reagen Tibbs had good showings. Conrady placed 3rd in Original Comedy and 6th in Prose Reading while Tibbs placed 5th in Extemporaneous Speaking.

Sophomore Emma Cooper placed 5th in JV Declamation and sophomore Issac Duering placed 2nd in JV Extemporaneous Speaking.

Freshmen Jack Graue placed 4th in JV Dramatic Interp and Aleaya Turley placed 6th in JV Dramatic Interpretation; Mason Landers placed 6th in varsity Humorous Duet Acting with Laura Centers and Mason placed 2nd in JV Humorous Interp; Katie Lynn placed 6th in JV Prose Reading.

"I have told the team when I started head coaching four seasons ago that I was not worried about bringing home trophies," said Jennifer Keith, "that I just wanted to see them individually improve from week to week, but bringing home hardware sure is fun."

The team next competes in Bloomington on Dec. 5th.
