How often do you pull up to the gas pump and find free lottery tickets taped to it? Well, unless you were at Thornton's on the corner of Keokuk and North Logan Streets in Lincoln on Wednesday your answer is probably "never." A lovely, anonymous lady came into the store Wednesday and purchased lottery tickets and took them out and taped them to all the gas pumps with a note saying it was her 50th birthday, she was giving the finder a gift and asking him or her to "pay it forward." She told the Thornton cashier that she was celebrating her birthday by giving instead of getting, and had been planning on doing this for quite some time.

On July 9th LDN ran a photo (top) of the flooding and the effect it was having on a little wooden bench at the Sportsman Club on the south edge of Lincoln. It was just one example of how the water was rising around the county after some large rain events. But, after that last photo it seemed that the rains stopped, and the balance of the summer was dry. A picture taken late last week (bottom) shows that water levels are now at or below normal at the Sportsman Club, and the little bench is once again in plain view. This is also the case with some of the waterways around the county as levels are dropping in the various creeks and branches.
