[October 02, 2015]   On July 22, 2015, Benjamin Nelson pleaded guilty to Unlawful Methamphetamine Conspiracy, a class 1 felony, in that he agreed with certain other individuals to participate in the manufacture of methamphetamine. A sentencing hearing was held on September 30, 2015 where Associate Judge William Workman sentenced Benjamin Nelson to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections with a period of 2 years of mandatory supervised release (formerly known as parole).

On April 25, 2015, Lincoln Police responded to a dispatch at 1119 6th Street, Lincoln, Illinois. The dispatch related to a disturbance at the same address. Upon arrival, Lincoln officers made observations that lead to the investigation and arrest of Benjamin Nelson for meth related offenses. “Sometimes drug cases arise from planned narcotics investigations. Other times, they are the result of unrelated investigations. Here, Lincoln Police officers used good investigative work to bring this case to a conviction,” stated Jonathan Wright, Logan County State’s Attorney.

“Meth is a dangerous drug. It is dangerous in its use and dangerous in its production,” continued Wright. “This is a significant sentence that should send a clear message that meth and the production of meth in this community will not be tolerated.”

The co-conspirators’ charges remain pending. These individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
