LINCOLN
- Jonathan Wright announced this week that he is seeking a second
term as Logan County State’s Attorney. Wright was first elected as
State’s Attorney in November 2012. Prior to be elected State’s
Attorney, he served as an Assistant State’s Attorney for two
different administrations. Wright first came to Logan County in 1995
when he opened his own private practice where he served as City
Attorney for both Lincoln and Atlanta.

“It is an honor to serve the citizens of Logan County as State’s
Attorney. I am now asking the people of Logan County to elect me for
a second term,” said Wright. As State’s Attorney, Wright has taken a
strong stand against drugs and violence. Working closely with local
law enforcement agencies, Wright has prosecuted many cases involving
the delivery of drugs. “Drugs, especially heroin and meth, are a
threat to Logan County. This office has sought and obtained
significant prison sentences for those who bring illegal drugs into
our community,” said Wright. Wright, however, has also helped to
address drug addiction in other ways. Wright was one of the initial
members participating in the Logan County Drug Court. The program,
now mandated by statute, allows for those with drug addiction to
receive intensive probation and treatment as an alternative to
prison. “Drug court is a last chance for recovery before prison.
Although not everyone succeeds, we have seen some complete the
program and become contributing members of the community,” stated
Wright.
The State’s Attorneys’ Office under Wright’s leadership has also
successfully prosecuted crimes of violence. The multiple homicide
case against Christopher Harris was one of the largest and most
tragic cases in recent years for Logan County. “I worked with the
Logan County Sheriff and the Illinois State Police during the
massive investigation of these brutal murders. I then was able to
serve on the prosecution team that secured a guilty jury verdict on
all counts against Christopher Harris,” added Wright.
In addition to prosecuting criminal offenses, the State’s Attorney
also serves as the attorney for the County. “I have worked very hard
to make this office accessible to members of the County Board and
County elected officials to provide legal counsel,” Wright added. “I
believe that I have created a strong working relationship with the
County Board and County officials. Providing these officials with
strong legal advice assists them as they serve the people of Logan
County.”

Wright also serves on a committee of the Illinois Supreme Court for Criminal
Pattern Jury Instructions. “I remember the telephone call from Illinois Supreme
Court Chief Justice Rita Garman asking me to serve on the committee. What an
honor to represent Logan County in this capacity,” said Wright.
“I also consider it a great honor to work with an excellent staff within this
office,” stated Wright. Brad Hauge and Zach Schmidt serve as Assistant State’s
Attorneys. Nate Kessinger and Marsha Tidrick served administratively. Lisa Bobb
also serves as Victims’ Advocate. “The quality of their work reflects their
commitment to serve the people of Logan County,” stated Wright.
“I respectfully ask for the privilege to serve as State’s Attorney for a second
term,” concluded Wright. The primary election that includes the Logan County
State’s Attorney is March 15, 2016.
