The Blackhawks signed the 23-year-old to a two-year contract this summer after he notched 62 points in 54 games in Russia's KHL last season. "I call him the bread man," coach Joel Quenneville said. "Looked like he had the puck all night." Panarin described his emotions as "over the top," adding, "I'm trying to remember the reactions of the crowd. I kind of got overwhelmed, couldn't hear anything. I was really happy. It's just too bad we didn't win."

RW Patrick Kane skated on a line with C Artem Anisimov and LW Artemi Panarin for the Blackhawks. Kane reportedly is the subject of a law-enforcement investigation near Buffalo, N.Y., but he has not been charged.

RW Patrick Kane tallied an assist and led the team with five shots on goal. He is the subject of a law-enforcement investigation near Buffalo, N.Y., but he has not been charged. "The crowd was supportive," he told ESPN after the Blackhawks' home opener. "In the situation, you don't know which way it's going to go, one way or the other, but at the same time, try to control what I can now. Go out on the ice and have fun, play hockey and try to make some plays and create some offense for my team. It's fun to be out there playing."
