10/19/2015 MLB Note - Kansas City Royals Young, Chris

RHP Chris Young, primarily a reliever in the second half of the season, will start for the Royals in Game 4 of the AL Championship Series, manager Ned Yost announced Sunday. Young went 11-6 with a 3.06 ERA in the regular season. In his lone postseason appearance, he gave up one run in four innings of relief in Game 1 of the AL Division Series against the Houston Astros. "He's got really good numbers against (the Blue Jays)," Yost said, explaining why he selected Young over RHP Kris Medlen. "They're both great choices, but, you know, Chris Young, his last two starts of the year were really, really good for us. We feel like he gives us a good chance to win."

MLB Note - Texas Rangers Lewis, Colby

RHP Colby Lewis underwent left knee surgery Oct. 16 to repair a torn meniscus. His status for the start of spring training was unknown. Lewis, 36, is a pending free agent, and Rangers GM Jon Daniels said the team is still interested in retaining the veteran despite the operation. Lewis pitched with the knee injury during the second half of the season. Overall this year, he went 17-9 with a 4.66 ERA in 204 2/3 innings.

MLB Note - Texas Rangers Beltre, Adrian

3B Adrian Beltre played the second half of the season and the postseason despite having a torn ligament in his left thumb, Rangers GM Jon Daniels announced Oct. 16. Beltre hit .318/.376/.509 with 11 homers and 61 RBIs after the All-Star break -- all improvements on his first-half figures -- even though he was dealing with the ailment that sidelined him for 19 games in June. He will be re-examined in October to determine if surgery is needed, Daniels said. Even if Beltre undergoes an operation, he should be fully healed in time for spring training, according to the GM.

MLB Note - Chicago Cubs Hendricks, Kyle

RHP Kyle Hendricks will look to keep the Cubs from falling into a three games to none hole in the National League Championship Series on Tuesday night, when he takes the mound in Game 3 against the Mets at Wrigley Field. This will be the second postseason start for Hendricks. He didn't factor into the decision in Game 2 of the NL Division Series against the Cardinals on Oct. 10, when he gave up three runs on four hits and no walks while striking out seven over 4 2/3 innings in the Cubs' 6-3 win. Hendricks won his lone regular-season start against the Mets this season on June 30, when he tossed six shutout innings of three-hit ball in the Cubs' 1-0 victory at Citi Field.

MLB Note - Chicago Cubs Arrieta, Jake

RHP Jake Arrieta picked a bad time for his worst start in four months. Arrieta took the loss Sunday, when he allowed four runs on four hits and two walks while striking out eight over five innings as the Cubs fell to the Mets 4-1 in Game 2 of the NL Championship Series. It was the second consecutive start in which Arrieta allowed four runs and his shortest outing since June 16. Arrieta recorded a 1.14 ERA in 21 starts from late June through the NL wild-card game. In addition, the loss was his first since July 25, when the Cubs were no-hit by then-Phillies LHP Cole Hamels. Arrieta is in line to start Game 6 if the Cubs can extend the series that long.

MLB Note - Chicago Cubs Hammel, Jason

RHP Jason Hammel is in line to start for the Cubs in Game 4 of the NL Championship Series. Manager Joe Maddon said Sunday afternoon that he won't officially commit to Hammel in case the veteran is needed in relief in Game 3 Tuesday but that "if we don't have to use Jason, it will be him." Hammel started the decisive Game 4 of the NL Division Series against the St. Louis Cardinals but didn't factor into the decision when he was lifted after allowing two runs over three innings in the Cubs' 6-4 win.

MLB Note - Chicago Cubs Bryant, Kris

3B Kris Bryant recorded the Cubs' only RBI in Game 2 of the NL Championship Series on Sunday, when his sixth-inning double scored CF Dexter Fowler in a 4-1 loss to the Mets. Bryant finished 2-for-4 in his second multi-hit game of the playoffs. Even with the two multi-hit games, he is batting just .185 (5-for-27) with one homer and three RBIs in seven playoff games.

MLB Note - New York Mets deGrom, Jacob

RHP Jacob deGrom will look to help the Mets take a commanding three games to none lead in the NL Championship Series on Tuesday night, when he takes the mound in Game 3 against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. DeGrom won both his starts in the NL Division Series against the Dodgers, including the decisive Game 5 on Thursday in which he allowed two runs on six hits and three walks while striking out seven over six innings in the Mets' 3-2 victory. He allowed both runs in the first but held the Dodgers hitless in their last 12 plate appearances with a runner in scoring position. DeGrom was 0-2 with a 6.10 ERA in two starts against the Cubs this season.

MLB Note - New York Mets Uribe, Juan

INF Juan Uribe took ground balls during batting practice Sunday prior to the Mets' 4-1 win over the Cubs in Game 2 of the NL Championship Series. It was the first baseball activity for Uribe since he aggravated a chest contusion while swinging the bat in a game against the Reds on Sept. 25. Uribe has not been on the Mets' roster for either the NL Division Series or NL Championship Series. He batted .219 with six homers and 20 RBIs in 44 games for the Mets, who acquired him from the Braves on July 24, and .253 with 14 homers and 53 RBIs in 119 games overall this season between the Mets, Braves and Dodgers.

-----------------------------------------------

MLB Note - New York Mets Murphy, Daniel

2B Daniel Murphy continued his blistering run Sunday, hitting his fifth homer of the postseason as the Mets won Game 2 of the NLCS.

Murphy has homered in a franchise-record four consecutive playoff games. The five homers tie the franchise record for career postseason homers, set by Mike Piazza in 1999 and 2000 combined. Four of Murphy's homers have come in 15 plate appearances against the pitchers who are likely to finish in the top three in the NL Cy Young Award voting -- Cubs RHP Jake Arrieta, Dodgers LHP Clayton Kershaw and Dodgers RHP Zack Greinke. Those three combined to face 2,603 batters this season and give up 39 homers -- an average of one homer per 67 plate appearances.

-----------------------------------------------

MLB Note - New York Mets Familia, Jeurys

RHP Jeurys Familia set a Mets postseason record Sunday when he earned the save by throwing a one-hit ninth inning to close out a 4-1 win over the Cubs. Familia's fourth save of these playoffs broke the franchise record for postseason saves in a career previously shared by Tug McGraw, Armando Benitez and Billy Wagner. In 7 2/3 innings this postseason, Familia has allowed no runs on just two hits and one walk while striking out four.
