[October 20, 2015]  ELKHART - Thelma V. Davis, 95, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at her home in Elkhart at 4:20 p.m. Sunday October 18, 2015.

Visitation: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday October 23, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski.

Service: 10 a.m. Saturday October 24, at Elkhart Christian Church

Obituary

Thelma V. Davis, 95, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at her home in Elkhart at       4:20 p.m. Sunday October 18, 2015.

Thelma was born to Claude and Elva Hall Johnson on December 26, 1919 and raised on their farm in rural Elkhart.  In 1937 she graduated from Elkhart High School where she met, and in 1938, married              John Delmar Davis sharing life together for 59 years and seven months. He preceded her in death on January 25, 1998.

Thelma’s primary goal was to be a loving wife and mother who diligently cared for and helped her children to mature and grow. 

Since 1952, she was a faithful member of Elkhart Christian Church, wrote many poems, was a secretary/bookkeeper for Elkhart High School, Lincoln Federal Land Bank and for Davis Truck Service.  She was a member of and served a year as President of the Elkhart American Legion Auxiliary and Mount Pulaski Woman’s Club. 

Thelma is survived by five children of her seven children; Roger(Mary Lou) Davis of Dunmore, PA, Sheryl (Stephen) Deckro of Morrison, Karl (Kay) Davis of Elkhart, Sue Roush of Industry, and Bradley (Debra) Davis of Manitowoc, WI;  22 grandchildren; Shannon McBride, Matthew Davis, Stephanie Deckro, Sarah Lawrence, Jerry Davis, Scott Davis, Karyl Davis, Staci Floyd, Becky Bellefeuille, Nathaniel Davis, Geoffrey Davis, Elena Davis, Timothy Davis, Zachary Davis, Abigail Davis, Matthew Davis, Shane Davis, Chester W. Davis, Melinda Soelle, and Angela Pitts;

She is also survived by 27 great-grandchildren; Roger Alan McBride, Mitchell Davis, William D. Lawrence, Michael J. Lawrence, Tori Lawrence, John A. Lawrence III, Vienna D. Tiria, Vaughn A. Tiria, Alexia K. Davis, Cecilia R. Davis, Isaac K. Davis, Quenton J. Markley, Zackary R. Floyd, Audrianna R. Floyd, Lukas E. Floyd, Allyson N. Raines, Hayley E. Raines, Caedmon Davis, Aiden Davis, Isidora Davis, Jonathan Soelle, Jeremy Soelle, Ashley Polk, Chelsea Pitts, and Ryan Pitts; and four great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, J. Daniel and Tony, and three siblings, Gene and Kenneth Johnson and Norma Stallings. 

Services for Thelma will be at 10 a.m. Saturday October 24, 2015 at Elkhart Christian Church with Stacy Popejoy officiating.  Burial will immediately follow at Elkhart Cemetery.   Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Friday evening at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski.  Memorials may be made to Elkhart Christian Church or the Elkhart American Legion Auxiliary.
