Obituary

Edith Violet Hern, 103, of Lincoln, passed away October 20, 2015, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon Saturday, October 24, 2015, at Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home. Burial will follow in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.

Edith was born October 25, 1912, in Houston, MO, the daughter of John Calvin West and Lydia Mae (Dixon) West. She married Orville John Hern on August 27, 1932. He preceded her in death on January 26, 1991.

Mrs. Hern was employed at the old Lincoln Hotel for several years; as a cook at the Mary Henry Nursing Home; and in housekeeping at Lincoln College.

 

Funeral Directors

Surviving are her children: Wilda Gooden of Reedsburg, WI; Velma Hinkle of Terre Haute, IN; George Hern of Bloomington; Bill Hern of Lincoln; Pat Hern of Washington; Judy Gerheardt of Lincoln; and Don Hern of Miami FL. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, great-great-great-grandchildren, and great-great-great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two children; John Hern and Bessie Morgan, one brother, and four sisters.

Memorial donations in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home.
