[September 04, 2015]  Sept 3 (The Sports Xchange) - Co-owners Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle are seeking $750 million for the Pittsburgh Penguins, according to a report by TSN.

That would be a record sale price for a U.S. NHL team, sports economist Drew Dorweiler told TSN.

Forbes magazine valued the Penguins at $565 million last year. Lemieux, Burkle and a group of minority owners bought the franchise for $107 million out of bankruptcy in 1999.

The Arizona Coyotes have signed first-round forward Nick Merkley to a three-year, entry-level contract, the team said.

Merkley, 18, tallied 20 goals and 70 assists in 72 games with Kelowna of the Western Hockey League last season. He ranked sixth in the league in scoring and finished third in assists for Kelowna.

The Chicago Blackhawks agreed to terms with Swedish forward Joakim Nordstrom on a one-year contract.

Nordstrom, 23, tallied three assists in 38 regular-season games and appeared in three postseason games en route to the 2015 Stanley Cup championship with the Blackhawks last season. He has recorded one goal and five assists over 54 career NHL games, all with Chicago.

Veteran defenseman Ryan Wilson is joining the Calgary Flames on a professional tryout, the team announced.

Wilson spent the past six seasons with the Colorado Avalanche, playing in 230 games and producing seven goals, 60 assists and 157 penalty minutes. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
