[September 08, 2015]  MOUNT PULASKI - Julian Schmidt, 96, of Mount Pulaski passed away on September 4, 2015 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.

Visitation: From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday September 8, 2015 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski.

Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 9 at the Mount Pulaski Zion Lutheran Church

Obituary

Julian Schmidt, 96, of Mount Pulaski passed away on September 4, 2015 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.

He was born January 10, 1919, at Mount Pulaski, IL to Carl and Anna Christina Schmidt. He married Lois Garton on May 2, 1943 in Lincoln. They have been married for 72 years.

Surviving are three children; Gene (Pat) Schmidt of Mount Pulaski, Gary (Kathy) Schmidt of Lincoln, and Keith (Joanne) Schmidt of Lincoln. He was preceded in death by one daughter Nancy Ann, his parents, one brother Wilbur Schmidt and a sister Marilyn Fuhrer.

Also surviving are eight grandchildren; Tarin (Steve) Dalton of Blue Ridge, VA, Lainen (Eric) Graff of Cumming, GA, Jason (Casie) Schmidt of Lincoln, Adam (Alyssa) Schmidt of Lincoln, Anna Schmidt of Lincoln, Jordan (Carolann) Schmidt of Monroe, WA; Julie (Ben) Jensen of Bloomington, and Jeremiah Schmidt of East Peoria. There are two step-grandchildren who are Tony (Rachel) West of Mount Pulaski, and Wendy (Caymon) Redd. There are 17 great grandchildren, 6 step-great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Julian Schmidt attended Illinois State University for two years. He served fout years as a Navy Pilot in World War II. After the war he farmed near Mount Pulaski raising grain crops, cattle and swine. He was active in Logan County serving as a 4-H leader for five years. He was on the board of the Logan County Farm Bureau and the Logan County extension service. He served on the board of the Sangamon Valley Farm Management for nine years. He served on the board of the Mount Pulaski High School for six years.

Julian was a lifelong member of the Mount Pulaski American Legion for 55 years and will have a military funeral at the cemetery in Mount Pulaski.

Funeral services for Julian will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday September 9, 2015, at the Mount Pulaski Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Jonathan Buescher officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday September 8, 2015 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski. Burial will be at Mount Pulaski Cemetery where full military rites will be accorded. Memorials may be made to the Mount Pulaski Zion Lutheran Church or to the American Legion Post #447.
