[September 16, 2015]  LINCOLN - The Logan County Alliance was quite pleased with the success of this year’s Balloon Festival. As part of the expansion of the Lincoln Art and Balloon Festival, the various segments of the past event were spread over four weekends this summer.

The first was Pigs and Swigs in June; the second, Art in the Park in July; the third, the Balloon Festival on its traditional weekend in August. The fourth component of the old festival format, the 1800’s Craft Fair at Postville Courthouse was to have been held in September during the National Railsplitting Festival. However, due to various concerns by the manager at Postville and the board of volunteers, that event will not happen this year.

In looking back at the three festivals that have been held. Pigs and Swigs did very well, and the barbecue contest continues to grow in popularity.

Art in the Park was not as successful, primarily because the weather did not cooperate. The high heat and threats of storms that weekend may have prevented people from coming out. On the other hand, the vendors in the park said they saw little difference in the dollars they generated through art sales from previous years. What they did note was that those who came were the serious shoppers, who made purchases, while in the past they had a lot of ‘lookers’ who didn’t buy.

According to a recent press release from the Alliance, the Balloon Festival brought in the largest crowd in its history and generated a very good amount of revenue through its gate admissions. In spite of weather deterrents on Friday night and Saturday morning, the crowds came on Saturday night, so much so that the airport ran out of parking, and a back-up plan in place for the last several years had to be implemented for the first time.

Now, the Alliance is preparing to move forward, and they want to know what the public thought of the Balloon Festival this year. The LCA has put together a short survey that they want everyone to take.

The survey is accessible through the link below and will take less than five minutes to complete. It begins with some multiple choice questions about your attendance this year, then moves on to ask you to rate the various offerings at the airport.

Finally, the survey asks for your suggestions for the future and an explanation of why you are making the suggestion. Now is your opportunity to have input on the future of the festival. There are many who offer opinions among their friends, but the opinions that count are going to be the ones that are given directly to festival planners.

The survey is generated through a Google program. It does not ask for your name or any contact information. There is no special login required and no password required.
