[September 18, 2015]  LINCOLN - The first localLincoln Colon Cancer Awareness 5K will be held on Saturday, September 19th at Madigan State Park. The walk will be held to raise money and awareness for colon cancer – one of the top three cancer killers. Proceeds will support the Colon Cancer Alliance (CCA).

The walk is being started in honor of Lincoln resident Joni Marten who was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer in June 2013. Through her fight, Marten has received 40 chemotherapy treatments and two major surgeries throughout the past two years. Her friends and family started this walk to raise funds and awareness for colon cancer – the second leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States. We also remind adults over the age of 50 to get a colonoscopy.

The event will feature a 5K Run and Walk all while raising needed funds for the fight against colon cancer. CCA is the leading national patient advocacy organization dedicated to increasing colon cancer screening rates and survivorship.

The walk/run will start at 10 a.m. with registration starting at 8:30 a.m. Interested participants can sign up at www.lincolncolonwalk.com
