PRELIMINARY: According to the preliminary traffic crash
investigation District 9 responded to a truck tractor semi-trailer
versus pedestrian crash on I-55 northbound near milepost 118.
The pedestrian,
Jamal W. Horvath, who was working as a tow truck operator and
standing next to the driver’s side of his marked tow truck, which
had its amber rotating / flashing lights activated, was in the
process of removing a disabled vehicle from the right shoulder of
the interstate when he was struck by a passing truck tractor
semi-trailer.

Mr. Horvath was pronounced
deceased at the scene of the crash by the Logan County Coroner’s Office. The
driver of the truck tractor semi-trailer, Mr. Michael W. Marsh, was not injured.
The right and center lanes of I-55 near the crash scene were shut down for
several hours will police conducted their investigation.
