[September 26, 2015]  LINCOLN - The Logan County Department of Public Health (LCDPH) has a new website to provide the community with the latest news and information as it relates to public health and available programs.

The new website is designed to be more user-friendly to allow for easier navigation and provides greater detailed information, links and resources than previously. The website is also formatted to navigate easier on a mobile device.

In addition to breaking news, the website provides access to the department’s Facebook stream, upcoming events and the latest food sanitation scores. Home Health, Dental, Nursing Services, WIC, Healthworks, Environmental Health, Health Education and Emergency Preparedness are among the department programs that are showcased. Program pages that have been expanded with more information include Environmental Health, Health Education and Emergency Preparedness.

The Environmental Health page is designed to provide business owners, contractors and the general public with the necessary information, links and regulations to make better public health decisions. Topics covered include, but are not limited to, food sanitation, proper disposal from private wastewater systems and safe drinking water from private wells.

If you want to find out for yourself how the website can keep you better informed, consider the following. Well owners who draw their water from the Mahomet Aquifer should take note of important information provided on the potable water page. If you are unsure if your well draws water from this source, the web page provides a detailed map of the aquifer location.

The Health Education program page is expanded to further detail LCDPH targeted activities in the community while offering greater self-help resources and links. In addition, the Emergency Preparedness program page provides expanded resources and links to help the community prepare and be informed in the event of a disaster.

If you want to learn more about the community Illinois Project for Local Assessment of Needs (IPLAN), you can also find this on the website. IPLAN is a 5 year plan that must be developed by LCDPH (and statewide local health departments) to allow for recertification by the Illinois Department of Public Health to continue to provide public health services to the community. The plan targets the community’s highest health priorities and is completed in conjunction with local health coalition partners such as area agencies, medical providers and the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital (ALMH). A link to the ALMH “Community Dashboard” is available on the website which allows you to view community health data which is a valuable tool used in the development of IPLAN.

The Logan County Department of Public Health invites you to visit their new website at WWW.LCDPH.ORG to keep you informed to help make Logan County a healthier community.
