[September 30, 2015]  Sept 29 (The Sports Xchange) - St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Stephen Piscotty was released from a Pittsburgh hospital on Tuesday afternoon after suffering a head injury during a collision the night before in a game against the Pirates.

Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said later Tuesday that Piscotty has a "slight concussion," but suggested Piscotty could return to action soon.

The Cardinals will to have to wait at least one more day before having a chance to clinch their third straight National League Central championship.

The scheduled game between the Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night was postponed because of rain and rescheduled at part of a day-night doubleheader on Wednesday with starting times of 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Cardinals veteran right-hander Adam Wainwright will be activated from the 15-day disabled list prior to Wednesday's doubleheader and will be available to pitch out of the bullpen.
 


Wainwright tore his left Achilles tendon April 25 during a game against the Brewers at Milwaukee and was expected to miss the remainder of the season.

The Toronto Blue Jays got some good late-season news on Monday when Troy Tulowitzki felt fine after taking live batting practice and said he'll definitely be ready for the playoffs -- and could possibly return in this series.

The shortstop has been out since Sept. 12 when he suffered a cracked scapula and bruising to his upper back muscles.

New York Mets rookie left-hander Steven Matz, a candidate for the team's postseason staff, is dealing with "a little issue related to how he slept (Monday night)," according to general manager Sandy Alderson. "Slept on the wrong side, slept on the sofa, I don't know what happened. He seems to be better today, we'll see how he is."

New York Yankees second baseman Stephen Drew underwent additional testing for a possible concussion. Drew has not started since Sept. 15 because of a head cold and his place on the postseason roster is in question.

Baltimore Orioles center fielder Adam Jones (back spasms) was out of the starting lineup for the seventh time in the past eight games. He played nine innings Sunday in Boston but has been stiff since returning to Baltimore.

Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman, who has missed time with a sore right wrist, was back in the lineup Tuesday. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
