[April 02, 2016]  LOGAN & MACON COUNTIES - Logan County Clerk Sally Turner and Macon County Clerk Stephen Bean announced Friday that all Election Authorities were recently advised by the Illinois State Board of Elections of a mailing that has gone out in March from the Voter Participation Center (VPA) Chicago and Washington D.C., to all non-registered voters in the State of Illinois.

The mailing contains a letter from the VPA and a voter registration form with the name and address of each applicable Election Authority for their reference -should they choose to register to vote. These notices are coming from directly from VPC, and not the county election authority and they want to alleviate any confusion. Turner and Bean noted “There may be a possibility that some registration forms may go out to those who are already registered to vote, those who have moved, as well as those who have passed away.” They advised that if those circumstances arise simply discard the form.

“Any Logan or Macon County resident that receives this mailing, properly completes the form and returns it to our offices will be processed like any other registration,” said Clerks Turner and Bean. They continued, “We have been advised by the State Board of Elections that this is a legitimate company operating as non-government, non-profit and nonpartisan 501 (c)(3) organization.”

Both Turner and Bean noted high Same Day Voter Registration with Logan at 130 registrations and Macon 644 (219 in office and 425 at the polls). “Since the passage of SB 172, we have been overwhelmed with Grace Period Registrations and Same Day Registrations.

"Although we are pleased at the high voter turnout at the March 15 Primary, we encourage all our voters to be aware of life changes that would require them to change their voter registration information. Not only will this assist our office in protecting the integrity of voter roles, but will assist the voter to move through the voting process with ease and without frustration.”

If the public has any questions about the VPA mailing, please contact them at their office at 27 Wacker Dr., #710, Chicago, IL 62606, or by phone at (877)255-6750.

The VPA indicates that if anyone wants to be removed from their mailing lists to contact them at: infor@thevoterparti cipationcenter.org

Macon County residents may contact the Macon County Clerk for information regarding voter registration at (217) 424-1305 and Logan County residents may contact the Logan County Clerk at (217)732-4148.
