Lincoln Police Chief comments on ongoing death investigation

[April 05, 2016]  LINCOLN - The following statement was issued on Monday, April 4th at 12:40 p.m. by Lincoln Police Chief Paul Adams.

On Friday, April 1, 2016, at approximately 4:41 PM, Logan County Paramedics, Lincoln Fire Department, and Lincoln Police Department were requested to the 1000 Block of Davenport in reference to an unresponsive female.

Logan County Paramedics declared the unresponsive female as deceased, later identified as India Stoddard (29) of Lincoln, IL. Lincoln Police secured the scene and conducted an investigation into the matter with the assistance of an Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigator.

Preliminary findings, based on evidence located at the scene and interviews conducted, indicate the female died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Lincoln Police and the Logan County Coroner’s Office always thoroughly investigate these types of matters. This investigation is still in progress by the Lincoln Police Department and Coroner’s office.

Although this death has not yet been ruled a suicide by the Coroner’s office, we suggest to anyone having thoughts of depression or suicide to call the National Suicide Helpline at 800-273- TALK (8255).
