 Kershaw is 5-0 in his past seven starts against San Diego with
wins in five of his past seven outings at Petco Park. Kershaw, who
last lost to the Padres on June 21, 2013, was touched for a clean
two-out single by John Jay in the third inning. Kershaw struck out
nine, walked one and retired the final 13 batters he faced.
Adrian Gonzalez had three RBIs and three hits, and A.J. Ellis added
three RBIs. Chase Utley and Corey Seager each had two RBIs. Utley,
batting leadoff, also had three hits. The Dodgers, who finished with
17 hits, had six for extra bases, five doubles and a triple.
Rangers 3, Mariners 2
ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Rangers got just one hit, but they took
advantage of two Seattle Mariners errors in the fifth inning to
score three times. The Texas win snapped a nine-game Opening Day
winning streak for the Mariners.
Seattle ace Felix Hernandez took the loss and his record on Opening
Day fell to 6-1. Three walks around an error by third baseman Kyle
Seager produced one Texas run. Prince Fielder tied the game with the
Rangers' only a hit, an RBI bloop single to left. That tied the game
2-2, and an error by shortstop Ketel Marte allowed the go-ahead run
to score.
 Texas left-hander Cole Hamels (1-0) allowed a first-inning homer to
Robinson Cano and the homer to Seager in the second, but that was
it.
Giants 12, Brewers 3
MILWAUKEE -- Denard Span drove five runs, Matt Duffy sent in four
and the Giants clubbed four home runs, opening the 2016 season with
a rout at Miller Park.
San Francisco had 15 hits against four Milwaukee pitchers and broke
the game wide open in the eighth, scoring five runs on three
consecutive home runs -- by Joe Panik, Buster Posey and Hunter
Pence.
The Giants' offense helped pick up left-hander Madison Bumgarner
(1-0) who wasn't feeling 100 percent after battling the flu for the
past few days. He went five innings and allowed three runs on five
hits with five walks and six strikeouts.
Reds 6, Phillies 2
CINCINNATI -- Joey Votto's two-run single with the bases loaded
highlighted a five-run eighth inning on Opening Day before 43,683
fans, the largest regular-season crowd in the history of Great
American Ball Park.
Shortstop Zack Cozart went 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI to
become the first Reds player with three hits on Opening Day since
Barry Larkin in 2001.
Ross Ohlendorf (1-0) earned the victory.
Freddy Galvis hit a two-run home run and starter Jeremy Hellickson
allowed one unearned run in six innings for the Phillies in a losing
effort.
Nationals 4, Braves 3 (10 innings)
ATLANTA - Daniel Murphy hit a home run and added an RBI double in
the top of the 10th inning to give Dusty Baker a victory in his
debut as Nationals manager.
 The Braves tied the score with a run in the bottom of the ninth, and
the Nationals won on an unearned run in the 10th after second
baseman Gordon Beckham threw away a grounder hit by Ryan Zimmerman
with one out. Murphy knocked him in with his double and Nationals
closer Jonathan Papelbon pitched a perfect 10th inning to record the
save.
Bryce Harper and Murphy hit homers for the Nationals, while Freddie
Freeman and Adonis Garcia connected for the Braves.
Orioles 3, Twins 2
BALTIMORE -- Matt Wieters lined a single to center with two outs in
the bottom of the ninth that scored Chris Davis with the winning
run.
Davis began the game-winning rally with a two-out walk off of
right-hander Kevin Jepsen (0-1). Mark Trumbo followed with his
fourth hit of the game, a single to center, which moved Davis to
third. Wieters then lined his single to center on the first pitch.
Baltimore closer Zach Britton (1-0) earned the victory after he
retired the Twins in order in the ninth.
The game was delayed one hour and 41 minutes before the start and
another for one hour and 10 minutes after the second inning.

Blue Jays 5, Rays 3
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Blue Jays got three home runs off Tampa
Bay starter Drew Smyly, then got enough clutch outs with runners on
base to escape with its second win of the season.
Toronto got home runs from Josh Thole, Michael Saunders and Josh
Donaldson, building a 5-1 lead. R.A. Dickey (1-0) lasted five
innings to get the win.
Tampa Bay had the tying run on base in the sixth and eighth innings,
but Jesse Chavez struck out two batters to end the sixth and Drew
Storen struck out pinch-hitter Hank Conger to end the eighth.
Roberto Osuna had a 1-2-3 ninth on seven pitches for a second save.
Kevin Kiermaier went 3-for-3 with a walk for the Rays.
White Sox 4, A's 3
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Chris Sale allowed three runs over seven innings
and struck out eight, lifting Chicago to a season-opening victory
against Oakland at the Oakland Coliseum.
Sale allowed seven hits and walked one.
Adam Eaton went 2-for-3 with an RBI triple and scored a run for the
White Sox. Jimmy Rollins went 1-for-4 with an RBI and scored a run
in his White Sox debut.
Cubs 9, Angels 0
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Jake Arrieta began the 2016 season pitching like
the Cy Young Award winner he was last year, throwing seven scoreless
innings to lead Chicago to a shutout win over Los Angeles in the
season opener at Angel Stadium.
The 30-year-old right-hander gave up a single to Kole Calhoun in the
second inning and a single to Daniel Nava in the seventh and nothing
else, allowing the Cubs to flip the script, having been shut out on
Opening Day in each of the previous two seasons.
Arrieta had plenty of help from the Cubs offense, which knocked
Angels starter Garrett Richards out of the game after five innings.
Dexter Fowler reached base four times (three hits and a walk) and
scored three runs, and Miguel Montero had two hits, including a
two-run home run. Matt Szczur added a three-run double in the ninth
for good measure.
Rockies 10, Diamondbacks 5
PHOENIX -- Colorado rookie Trevor Story made history in his major
league debut while spoiling $206.5 million right-hander Zack
Greinke's first Arizona start.
Story hit a three-run home run in a six-run third inning and added a
bases-empty homer in the fourth, becoming the first rookie to
produce a multi-homer game in his major league debut on Opening Day.
Greinke gave up seven runs and nine hits while walking one and
striking out two. Last season, he went 19-3 with a
major-league-leading 1.66 ERA with the Dodgers before signing a
six-year free agent deal with Arizona.
Indians-Red Sox postponed
CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Indians game against the Boston Red Sox
was postponed due to a forecast of precipitation and wind chills in
the teens. The game has been rescheduled for Tuesday at 1:10 p.m.
Yankees-Astros postponed
NEW YORK - The New York Yankees game against the Houston Astros was
postponed because of rain and wintry weather. The game was
rescheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
