[April 08, 2016]    April 6 (The Sports Xchange) - Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson left Wednesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays after he limped out of the box on a ground ball in the seventh inning.

The Blue Jays shifted second baseman Darwin Barney to third base and inserted Ryan Goins in at second to replace Donaldson, who had hit a three-run homer in the third inning.

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said after the 5-3 loss that Donaldson has a strained calf and is day to day.

The Seattle Mariners outrighted catcher Rob Brantly to Triple-A Tacoma.

Brantly, 26, was designated for assignment on Sunday when the Mariners set their Opening Day roster.

The Mariners had claimed Brantly off waivers from the Chicago White Sox on March 12.

San Francisco Giants outfielder Denard Span was left out of the starting lineup after being stricken by a flu bug that has been working its way through the clubhouse. He did pinch hit Wednesday and struck out.

Span had gone 3-for-8 with a home run, five RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base in the first two games of the season.

Baltimore Orioles right-hander Kevin Gausman (right shoulder strain) threw 30 pitches on in a simulated game.

The goal is for him to be activated April 19. (Editing by Larry Fine) ))
