[April 15, 2016]  April 14 (The Sports Xchange) - After shaking up the league landscape in January with a move from St. Louis, the Los Angeles Rams shook up the 2016 NFL draft on Thursday, acquiring the No. 1 overall pick from the Tennessee Titans in a blockbuster deal.

The Rams are expected to use the pick to draft a quarterback, either Jared Goff of Cal or Carson Wentz from North Dakota State, to fill a standing need at the position.

The trade is the first involving the No. 1 overall pick since 2004, when the New York Giants acquired Eli Manning from the San Diego Chargers during the draft. The No. 1 pick has been traded seven times since 1990.

Tennessee will send the top pick and its fourth- (No. 113) and sixth-round (No. 177) picks this year to the Rams in exchange for Los Angeles' first-round pick (No. 15), two second-round selections (Nos. 43 and 45) and a third-round pick (No. 76) in 2016.

The Titans also will get the Rams' first- and third-round picks in 2017.

Defensive end Jared Allen is signing a one-day contract with Minnesota so he can officially retire as a Viking on Friday.

Allen previously announced his retirement from football two months ago after a 12-year career.

Allen played with Minnesota from 2008-13 and had 83.5 sacks, third-most in franchise history. He had his best season in 2011 when he led the NFL with 22 sacks.

Allen began his career with Kansas City in 2004 and played four seasons for the Chiefs before being traded to Minnesota.

After the 2013 season, Allen departed Minnesota and signed with the Chicago Bears. He was traded to the Carolina Panthers during the 2015 campaign and played in his final game in the Super Bowl 50 loss to the Denver Broncos.

Wide receiver Percy Harvin has informed the Buffalo Bills that he intends to retire, according to an ESPN report.

Harvin, 27, caught 19 passes for 218 yards last season before being shut down due to hip and knee injuries.

He has played for three teams since the start of the 2014 season and has played in more than nine games just once since posting career highs of 87 catches for 967 yards and six touchdowns for the Minnesota Vikings in 2011 - and that came in a 2014 season split between Seattle (five games and the New York Jets (eight).

Thursday's report still comes as a surprise, with Bills general manager Doug Whaley saying last month that he was informed Harvin did want to play in 2016.

Harvin signed a three-year deal last March that included nearly $6 million in guaranteed money, but the final two years of the contract were voided shortly after Super Bowl 50 to reduce his salary cap number.
