Earth Day Celebration Planned at Lincoln College’s Creekside
Free, full day of celebrations for the entire community

[April 20, 2016]  LINCOLN - Creekside, Lincoln College’s outdoor center for environmental education, is hosting an Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 23 from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

This family-friendly event is free and celebrates the past, present, and future of our planet. Attendees are encouraged to spend the entire day at Creekside.

Dr. Michael Wiant, Director of the Illinois State Museum and former Director of Dickson Mounds Museum will available to help attendees identify any Native American artifacts. The public is invited to bring any artifacts in their collection to be professionally identified by Dr. Wiant.

A few of the Earth Day activities planned include:

  • Family reading circle in the woods
  • Petting Zoo (10 a.m.- 2 p.m.)
  • Bird house building
  • Nature art
  • Tracking mammals
  • Nature hikes
  • Learning about pollinators and their prairie habitat
  • Tree identification and sapling give-away
  • Learning about skeleton and skulls

Lunch and refreshments will be available for purchase or families may bring their own picnic lunch. The Lincoln College String Ensemble will perform during the lunch hour.

Creekside is located along Sugar Creek, about four miles north of Lincoln, off of County Rd 2000N, halfway between County Rd 1100E and 1225th Ave, at the end of the Small-Edwards Trace gravel road.
