Emma Burton wins Young Creative Patriotic Art

LINCOLN - The Cronin Brothers # 1756 VFW Auxiliary in Lincoln has announced the first place winner of the local Young Creative Patriotic Art competition.

Emma Burton is the winner and her work will now be going on to District competition. Burton, daughter of Eric and Dawn Burton all of Lincoln, was presented a $50.00 check for her entry in the Cronin Brothers #1756 VFW Auxiliary’s Young Creative Patriotic Art Awards Scholarship.

Burton is a Senior at Lincoln Community High School and will be attending Heartland Community College and then transferring to the Western Illinois University Art Program.

VFW Auxiliary Scholarship Chairman Melanie Schaler said, "We hope that her art makes it all the way to National judging and an opportunity for her to receive anywhere from 1st place $10,000, 2nd $5,000, 3rd $2,500, 4th $1,500, and 5th-8th $500 each. First prize at District also includes a plaque and airfare plus two nights lodging to attend Auxiliary National Convention.

"The National first place art will be featured on the cover of the Auxiliary VFW magazine and on the Auxiliary website. Second and third place will be featured in the Auxiliary VFW magazine and on the website. 4th through 8th places will be featured on the website only."

The winning entries will be held so they can be displayed at the Auxiliary National Convention, and afterwards will be returned to the students.
