[April 25, 2016]  April 24 (The Sports Xchange) - New York Yankees designated hitter Alex Rodriguez left Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays with left oblique stiffness and was headed for an MRI exam.

Rodriguez was lifted with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Rodriguez reportedly tweaked his oblique taking swings in the batting cage behind the Yankees dugout and the injury was officially announced after the top of the eighth.

"Anytime someone has an oblique, you're not optimistic because they take a while," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said.

Rodriguez was 1-for-2 Sunday. He struck out swinging for the first out of the second inning and had an RBI double off the left-field wall in the fourth to raise his average to .145.

Cleveland Indians right-handed starter Carlos Carrasco left Sunday's game against the Detroit Tigers with an injury to his left leg.

Carrasco suffered a left hamstring injury during the third inning as he raced over to cover first base on Andrew Romine's grounder. He crumpled to the dirt after getting the out and had to be helped off the field, unable to put any pressure on the leg.

Avila was injured running the bases during Saturday's game against the Rangers. Smith, who was drafted in the seventh round in 2011, has yet to play in the majors. He was hitting .345 at Triple-A.
