[April 26, 2016]  The Lincoln Heat 10U beat Monticello 9-6 Sunday in a first of a two-game set in Monticello.

Trey Schilling was a workhorse on the rubber for Lincoln Heat 10U. Trey pitched seven innings, allowed four earned runs, seven hits, and two walks while striking out twelve.

The top of the second saw Lincoln Heat 10U take an early lead, 2-0. Singles led by Brenden Wurth, Schilling, and Darren Stevens started the rally, as walks by Camden Nelson and Wyatt Mammen gave three more runs for the Heat. Another run was scored when Colbie Glenn singled, driving in Luke Jones to give Lincoln a 6-1 lead in the top of the 5th inning.

Monticello, not giving in on a 6-1 deficit, drove in five runs on four hits to tie the game at 6-6 in the top of the 7th.

Jarrett Evers helped Lincoln Heat 10U pull ahead for the duration in the seventh inning, driving in Camden Nelson to give Lincoln a 7-6 lead. Brenden Wurth then doubled to right field scoring two runs and giving Lincoln a 9-6 lead.

Trey Schilling then got his twelfth strikeout to end the game and give the Lincoln Heat 10U their second win of the early season to take the Lincoln Heat 10U season record to 2-0.

In the nightcap of the twin bill, Monticello took a commanding lead, scoring seven runs in the first and eventually winning the time-shortened game 13-6 in three innings. The game ended after the third inning due to a time limit for a doubleheader.

[to top of second column]

Luke Jones crossed the plate twice to lead Lincoln in runs scored as Wyatt Mammen, Darren Stevens, Camden Nelson, Trey Schilling, Ryan O’Donoghue and Jones collected hits in the game. Jacob Lawrence, along with Jones, grabbed a walk each to reach base.

Wyatt Mammen collected three K's, and Brenden Wurth allowed only one hit, while Ryan O’Donoghue kept Lincoln in the game on the mound.

But it was Monticello’s quality at-bats collecting thirteen walks in three innings to secure the win.

The Lincoln Heat 10U goes on the road again this Wednesday to take on Hopedale and try to capture the series sweep as Lincoln beat Hopedale earlier in the season 19-4.
