[April 27, 2016]  April 26 (The Sports Xchange) - Major League Baseball is investigating the actions of Detroit Tigers center fielder Tyler Collins after he flipped off jeering fans during Monday night's game against the Oakland Athletics.

Collins made the gesture after a ball dropped in front of him in center field, causing the Detroit fans to roundly boo him. Collins could face a suspension for his antics.

Jake Arrieta brushed off speculation that steroid use has contributed to a spectacular run of 24 consecutive quality starts, a 20-1 record and two no-hitters since last June.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday prior to the start of a three-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers, the Chicago Cubs right-hander said there's no mystery surrounding his physical condition and success.

"I eat plants and I eat lean protein and that's my gig," said Arrieta, who tossed a no-hitter last Thursday at Cincinnati. "I watch what I eat and I train properly. That's no secret. My mom's 6-1 and my dad's 6-4, so I'm going to be big. I do Pilates, I strength train with heavy weights occasionally and this is the result."

New York Mets catcher Travis d'Arnaud was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right rotator cuff strain, the team announced.

The shoulder flared up while d'Arnaud attempted to throw out a base stealer in Monday's game against the Cincinnati Reds. He felt more pain during an at-bat in the sixth inning and finally departed in the eighth.

Oakland Athletics minor-league pitcher Sean Murphy unexpectedly died, the team announced. He was 27.

The Athletics said Murphy died Monday in Arizona. No cause of death was immediately revealed.

Murphy had yet to pitch this season after being suspended for 50 games for his second positive test for a drug of abuse. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
