[April 28, 2016]  LINCOLN - John “Jack” William Matson, 84, of Lincoln, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 1:22 p.m. at St. Clara’s Manor, Lincoln.

Visitation: Thursday April 28, 2016 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln.

Service: 10:00 a.m. Friday April 29, 2016 at The First United Methodist Church in Lincoln

Obituary

John “Jack” William Matson, 84, of Lincoln, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 1:22 p.m. at St. Clara’s Manor, Lincoln.

John was born June 11, 1931 in Lincoln, the son of Reginald and Emma Wilson Matson. He was united in marriage to Thelma Wiggers on November 22, 1953 at the First United Methodist Church in Lincoln. She preceded him in death on November 28, 2010 after 57 years of marriage.

John is survived by his three sons; Rodney (Tammy), Randy (Ann), Roger (Julie); his three daughters, Valerie Huffman (Jimmy Wright), Pam (Rex) Mallekoote of Lincoln, and Beckie (Mike) Geskey of Metamora. He was also blessed with 14 grandchildren; Lauren Matson, Hayden Matson, Abby McCarty, Chris Matson, Aaron Matson, Tyler Matson, Brandy White, Brook Krider, Tiffany Fulmer, Craig Geskey, Gretchen Bree, Tim Mallekoote, Brittney Redding and Scott Mallekoote. He is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren, as well as his brother, Robert “Bob” (Ruth) Matson; his sister, Betty Poston, two sisters-in-law Katharina Goldhammer and Darlene Singley; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma, his parents, brothers, Leo Dean, Reginald Jr., and James, as well as his mentor and friend Ellsworth “Brownie” Brown.

John was a member of The United States Army, serving in the Korean War. He returned to the states and worked alongside his father as a plasterer. He worked at Lehn and Fink for 38 years. He also was employed at Glenn Pontiac. He was a Boy Scout Leader in his spare time.
 

John loved his family. His greatest joy was attending events that his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were involved with. He enjoyed camping with his friends and their families. He and Thelma traveled many places with their children. They enjoyed the many bus trips they took, with Branson being their favorite. He was a member of The First United Methodist Church, Boy Scouts of America, VFW, and American Legion Post #263.

Services for John will be 10:00 a.m. Friday April 29, 2016 at The First United Methodist Church in Lincoln, with Pastor Tami Werschey-Kessinger officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday April 28, 2016 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln. Burial will be held at Hartsburg Union Cemetery, immediately following the service, where full military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #263. Memorial donations may be made in John’s name to the Memorial Home Hospice or American Legion Post #263.

The family would like to thank friends and family for visits and prayers and also the staff of ALMH and St, Clara’s Manor as well as Dr. Laya and Dr. Harmon for the love and care for John during these last months.
