[August 02, 2016]    Aug 1 (The Sports Xchange) - Sabres forward Evander Kane pleaded not guilty in a Buffalo courtroom on Monday to charges stemming from a June 24 incident at a downtown Buffalo bar.

 

Kane, 24, was charged with four counts on non-criminal harassment and one count of misdemeanor trespass in relation to the incident at Bottoms Up.

He did not speak during his court appearance, with his attorney entering the plea for him.

Kane was arrested on July 22 and later released, and the case is due back in Buffalo count on Sept. 9 with Kane free on his own recognizance, according to the Buffalo News.

A week before his 27th birthday, center Sam Gagner signed a one-year contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Financial terms were not disclosed but according to the Columbus Post-Dispatch, Gagner will get $650,000 from his fourth NHL team.

The Arizona Coyotes placed center Antoine Vermette on waivers and bought out the final year of his contract, saving the team around $2.5 million in salary cap space.

Vermette is coming off a disappointing 2015-16 season in which he scored 17 goals and 38 points.

The New York Islanders plan to honor former Hall of Fame head coach Al Arbour, who passed away a year ago, with a memorial service later this month.

The Islanders announced that the memorial will take place on Aug. 29 at Northwell Health Ice Center, the team's official practice facility. Arbour, who guided the Islanders to four straight Stanley Cup championships in the 1980s, died on Aug. 28, 2015, at age 82.
