[August 09, 2016]  LINCOLN - Larry Steffens, 72, passed away at 8:09 p.m. on August 3, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Service: 12:00 noon on Saturday August 13, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln

Obituary

Larry Steffens, 72, passed away at 8:09 p.m. on August 3, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Larry was born on April 19, 1944 in Lincoln; son of Clarence and Mildred Brautigam Steffens, who passed away when Larry was 5 years old; Clarence then married Vera Fullriede, who raised Larry. He married Bette Davis on August 1, 1965 in Lincoln, She survives him.

Also surviving Larry are his children: Renee (Bob) Ponsonby of Cleveland, OH, Jon (Judy) Steffens of Peoria, Jason (Beth) Steffens of Lincoln, and Randall “Randy” (Tina) Steffens of Pontiac. Eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Judy Schilling and Donna Sparkman.

 

Larry was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he was a past board member. He was a member of Lincoln Logan Real Estate Investment Association. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962-1965. Larry’s passion was anything to do with horticulture. He loved landscaping and gardening. He was a 4-H leader for many years, and was also in charge of the 4-H flower show at the Logan County Fair. He also enjoyed reading, traveling, playing Pinochle, and spending time with his grandchildren Abi and Alex.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday August 13, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln with Rev. Candida Turner officiating followed by a celebration of life. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made in Larry’s name to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Landscape Project. Services are entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home of Lincoln.
