Next
Monday evening, Lincoln aldermen will consider a
motion to temporarily restrict street side parking
on Tremont Street between North Logan and North
Kickapoo Streets. It was brought up Tuesday evening
by Alderman Tracy Welch that with the temporary
closing of the Keokuk railroad crossing, traffic on
Tremont is very heavy and the parked cars along the
street are adding to the danger of navigating the
street. Chief of Police Paul Adams checked the city
map and told aldermen that two homes would be
negatively impacted if street side parking were
totally banned, even temporarily. Aldermen then
discussed banning parking on one side of the street
only, with the hopes that doing so will improve the
flow for the time being.

| State highway - old Route 66 -
Closure Beginning August 15th, a section of old
Route 66 south of Lincoln will be closed. The closure,
expected to last about two months, will begin south of the
prison road to 1200 St. (Fogerty Elevator). The length
affected is about 1.5 miles.
