[August 10, 2016]  SPRINGFIELD - Richard Eugene Huston, 89, passed away at 8:43 p.m. on July 21, 2016 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Rosary Service:  9:45 a.m. Friday July 29, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church

Visitation: 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at the church

Service: 11 a.m. Friday at the church

Funeral home: Fricke-Calvert-Schrader, Lincoln 

Obituary

Richard Eugene Huston , 89, passed away at 8:43 p.m. on July 21, 2016 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Richard was born on October 31, 1926 in Sturgis, MI; son of Sylvester H. and Anne Bertille McGovern Huston. He married Jane Leininger in 1956 in Lincoln, IL. She preceded him in death on January 31, 2003.

Surviving Richard are his many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many cousins. He also is survived by his best friend Brian (Teddi) Menichetti of Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sister-in-laws: Virginia Leininger and Mary Rose Kramp, and two brother-in-laws: Vincent and Raymond Warnisher.

Richard was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a sports writer for the Lincoln Courier for many years, and also taught English at Springfield College in Illinois.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday July 29, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lincoln with Rev. Jeffrey Laible officiating. A rosary service will be held at 9:45 a.m. also at the church prior to visitation. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service (10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.). Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery will follow the service.

Memorials may be made in Richard’s name to Holy Family Catholic Church.

Services are entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
